Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDT) recently released a new single-pole double-throw (SPDT) absorptive RF switch, specially designed to adapt to the latest cable TV network equipment. The product, named IDT® F2970, is a high-linearity 75-ohm wideband switch that complies with the new DOCSIS 3.1 standard and is ideally suited for next-generation cable television equipment and a wide range of broadband applications, including headends, fiber nodes and distribution amplifiers.
The Data over Cable Services Interface Specification (DOCSIS) is an international standard for transmitting data over high-bandwidth cable modems. The new 3.1 standard aims to increase the efficiency and capacity of home data transmission pipelines at a lower unit cost.
Duncan Pilgrim, general manager of IDT's RF Division, said: "The launch of the F2970 is fully compliant with the requirements of the DOCSIS 3.1 standard, and it can be widely deployed in many high-end wired systems and other high-performance RF applications. This device achieves excellent low The perfect combination of insertion loss and high isolation greatly reduces path loss while effectively preventing crosstalk and signal attenuation.”

The F2970 provides high linearity over a wide frequency range from 5MHz to 3000MHz, allowing it to be widely used in the upstream and downstream signal chains of the entire CATV network. The device uses -90dBc composite triple beat (CTB) and composite second-order distortion, and can support 77 and 110 channels with an output power of 44dBmV.
In addition, the F2970 has a wide operating temperature range from -40°C to 105°C, low insertion loss of only 0.32dB at 1200MHz, and high isolation of 68dB. The device operates from a positive supply voltage, supports 3.3V logic families, and comes in a 4mm x 4mm 20L QFN package. Samples and production parts are available now, priced at 93 cents per 1,000 parts, and evaluation boards are $125 each.
